This Album was this pile of songs that itched my mind to be made and be set in record.

It was a bumpy time in my life, navigating being a mum and a musician, and caring for my little mama as well. And so much more. I think I wanted to make this golden thing to pinpoint such a big time in my life.

Three of these songs – Follow the Blackbird, He’s Got Her and I’ve been Watching You; were recorded as a live studio take with Sonia Leeson and Carla Versitano. Two powerful vocalists, and two dear friends. When you find those friends that intuitively harmonise to your mistakes, and carry you through the highs and lows with music and joy and grief, you gotta capture those moments in song eh?

We Will Sing was this incredible opportunity to compose a song to perform at the Lismore Conservatorium Jubilee Celebration. I studied at the Conservatorium in 1998, straight out of school, and into this glorious legume eating, barefoot dancing, jazz studying with no ego wonderland. A glorious year of my life that instilled utter music joy. They asked me to compose a song to perform with their Orchestra and a large choir, for the Jubilee Celebration, led by the Honourable Sir Richard Gill.

It was such a joy to be a part of this celebration. I will forever remember standing there, trying to remember the words to my own song, in my amazing red wedding dress, the orchestra and choir belting out; singing to my mum.  SO wonderful.

Burnin for a Long Time was recorded live in my parents house, a few days before sale. When a house you’ve lived and loved is empty for the selling- I see is an acoustic space of love not to be missed. Sure, I took photos of every inch of that home built house before it became someone elses… but I also got a bunch of legends in and recorded a song for the fireplace. A song for the curling up on the couch. A song for my dad.

I named it Focus. Cause thats what I’ve gotta do to get things done.

And thats what you gotta do to see the important stuff.

This Album was all the things. A glorious love filled lump in my throat.

And I’m so glad I made it.
